Honoring History, Elevating Design: A Thoughtful Folk Victorian Remodel
Nestled in the heart of Georgetown, Texas, this Folk Victorian home was a treasure waiting to be polished. Our client, a lover of historic architecture and refined design, wanted a remodel that seamlessly merged period charm with modern luxury. Every decision we made was rooted in respect for the home’s past while enhancing its livability for today’s lifestyle
The kitchen, originally a back porch before a previous remodel, needed a fresh approach. We updated it with state-of-the-art appliances, custom cabinetry, and improved plumbing while making a bold design move—covering a window to allow for a proper range hood. But rather than let that piece of history disappear, we reimagined it. Using the original window glass, we crafted an entirely new, enlarged window above the sink, flooding the space with natural light and a sense of continuity. Soapstone countertops and living finishes on the hardware bring a tactile elegance, blending beauty with function.
In the dining room, we curated a balance of form and function. A custom-built hutch provides storage, a stylish backdrop for display, and a dedicated space for serving.
Layered details, including bespoke draperies and reproduction pendant lighting over the homeowner’s original table, create a warm, inviting atmosphere perfect for entertaining.
The primary bathroom became a sanctuary, where we played with contrast and texture. A “reverse wainscot” treatment—where period-inspired wallpaper takes center stage above beadboard trim—adds unexpected drama. A newly installed skylight, trimmed in beadboard, bathes the space in soft daylight, accentuating the custom floor tile, hand-crafted vanity, and historically inspired wallpaper. Every element was selected to harmonize with the home’s original architecture while elevating the experience of daily living.
This remodel was more than just an update—it was a carefully considered transformation that preserved the home’s soul while making it effortlessly functional and undeniably beautiful. For those who appreciate historic integrity and playful yet refined design, this project is proof that old homes can be both deeply personal and perfectly suited for modern living.
